Statement regarding OptoFlat systems with Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC
August 2025
It has come to the attention of InterOptics, LLC that some of our
OptoFlat system users have become concerned that Windows 10 support by Microsoft is ceasing within the
next few months. The following information is provided in order to allay concerns in this regard.
The version of Windows 10 that is supplied by InterOptics, LLC and installed at the factory on new systems
is designated as Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2019, which is an IoT operating system version produced by Microsoft.
The "LTSC" terminology indicates that this operating system version is associated with Long-Term Servicing Channel parameters, including:
- 10-year support period by Microsoft after release
- Features and functionality that do not change for that 10-year period
Using this version of Windows 10 assures our customers that the behavior of the OptoFlat system will not change over time due to
uncontrolled, automatic operating system updates, and that any updates will not occur without active involvement of an authorized user
or IT department. The IoT Enterprise LTSC version of Windows 10 is specifically intended for use in systems requiring maximum stability,
such as manufacturing control and measurement systems, medical devices, ATMs, and other mission-critical infrastructure. Additionally, there
are a number of features that are not included in this Windows 10 version, such as Cortana, OneNote, Camera, Microsoft Edge and others,
which would be subject to periodic updates.
Currently, the supplied version of Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC that is resident on OptoFlat systems has a Microsoft support
window extending into 2029 based on the published statements from Microsoft.
Beginning September 2025, all OptoFlat systems shipped from InterOptics, LLC will incorporate the Windows 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC
Operating System. As noted above, support for Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC will still be in effect well into 2029, for all systems
that are currently in use.
